Funeral Directors and Coroners

The University of Louisville Lions Eye Bank works very closely with funeral service organizations and county coroners when families wish to donate corneas/eyes from a family member.  It is always our intent to perform the recovery as professionally, respectfully, and quickly as is humanly possible.  Should you ever have any questions or concerns about cornea/eye donation, please contact us at 502-852-5457.  The University of Louisville Lions Eye Bank has a licensed funeral director and embalmer with many years experience as part of our full-time staff.

The eye bank also works very closely with the Kentucky and southern Indiana coroners.  The eye bank is trained to recover vitreous and blood samples, if requested.  Many deaths the coroner is involved with are suitable for cornea/eye donation.  If you are a coroner or deputy coroner and would like to offer this option to the families you serve, please call our referral line at 800-525-3546.
